Cheru Kizhangu Puzhukku / Boiled Lesser Yam

First time I was preparing this at home, I didn’t see this lesser yam in super markets before. It is preparing in the same way as other tubers like tapioca(kappa), taro(chembu). It is also known ‘nana kizhangu’ in Malayalam. It has a mild sweetness.

Ingredients

  • Lesser yam / Cheru kizhangu – 5- 6
  • Water
  • Salt

Preparation

  1. Remove the skin of lesser yam, cut into medium pieces and put it in a bowl of water to avoid getting brown
  2. Drain water and rinse for 2-3 times. Heat a pot with enough water and transfer the cleaned pieces into it. Boil it till it cooked well. Add salt to the water and drain the it after 10 minutes.
  3. Serve with Mulaku Chammanthi.
