Tomato Chutney / Thakkali Chammanthi


This is a simple recipe of chutney with tomato and coconut. You can serve it with dosa, idli and rice. It is an easy side dish to prepare.


  • Tomato – 2
  • Onion – 1
  • Coconut – 1/2 cup
  • Garlic – 4 flakes
  • Ginger – a small piece
  • Dry red chili – 4
  • Curry leaf – 1 sprig


  1. Heat oil in a wok , roast the red chilies for some time.
  2. Add onion, ginger, garlic and curry leaves and saute. When onion becomes golden brown, add chopped tomato pieces, salt and mix well. Cover and cook.
  3. When the tomatoes are mushy and cooked well, turn off the fire, add coconut and mix.
  4. When it cools down, grind it to a smooth paste without adding water.
