Erachi choru is a combination of rice, spices and meat. It looks like biriyani but this is an easy recipe than biriyani. It is a popular authentic rice recipe of Malabar region of Kerala. It is prepared with both normal boiled rice and biriyani rice. You can use either beef or mutton for this preparation. So we can directly go to the recipe.
Ingredients
- Beef – 250 gram
- Onion – 1
- Ginger garlic paste – 1 tablespoon
- Tomato – 1
- Green chilly – 2
- Curd – 1/4 cup
- Turmeric powder – 1/4 teaspoon
For Rice
- Parboiled rice – 1 cup
- Cinnamon stick – 1″ piece
- Cloves – 2
- Cardamom – 2
- Star anise – 1
- Garam masala – 1/2 tablespoon
- Turmeric powder – 1/4 teaspoon
- Water – 3 cups
Preparation
- Mix the cleaned beef pieces with chopped onion,ginger paste, garlic paste, green chillies, mint leaves, curd, turmeric powder and salt.
- Keep aside for at least 30 minutes. Add sufficient water and cook it in a medium flame.
- Boil water in a deep pan. Add cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, star anise,bay leaves,turmeric powder and salt.
- Allow it to boil and transfer washed rice to it. Mix well and allow it to cook in a medium flame.
- Transfer beef masala over the rice. Stir it well and close the lid. Heat a tava, place the pot with rice over it. Bake it for 20 minutes in a low flame.
- Then sprinkle garam masala, coriander leaves and coconut oil over it. Close the lid and again keep it for 5 minutes. Then open the lid and combine well.
- Serve with raita and pickle.
